An insulinoma is a rare tumor of insulin from pancreatic β-cell hypersecretion. The main symptom is fasting hypoglycemia. The diagnosis is 48 - or 72-h fast on glucose and insulin action, which followed by endoscopic ultrasound. The treatment is surgical, if possible. Drugs, insulin secretion is through the category (eg, diazoxide, octreotide, beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, β-blockers), phenytoin used for patients do not respond to surgery.
Most patients with benign insulinoma can be cured by surgery. Persistent or recurrent hypoglycemia after surgery rather occur in patients with multiple tumors. About two percent of patients develop diabetes after the operation.
